A formation appeared in a field beneath the historic Long Man of Wilmington in Sussex, during the night of 23rd/24th July 2025. Comprising of two 'footprints' and a 'splash' formation, the feet were situated on the southern side of the field immediately north of the Long Man, on a small natural rise. Visible from the Long Man Car-Park, where the photographs were taken. I think the strategic placement of the feet does raise eyebrows as to it's origin. The Long Man has a history of being the site of crop formations in Sussex. There have been complex formations, and much simpler. The feet of 2025 would probably fall into the latter category. Due to time constraints on the day of my visit, I was unable to get any closer to the formation than the public car park, therefore the bullet-point information contained on this page is taken from online sources.
In terms of the background to the 2025 formation, I have been fortunate enough to have been in contact with a couple of well-respected 'croppies', who have shed some information regarding the footprints at the Long Man, which I would not have picked up on. The main point of which has been the timing and the fact that it is perhaps not just coincidence that tge feet appeared on the same weekend as the British Open Golf Tournament. That in itself would not be directly linked, had it not been for the fact that one of the event sponsors was the sportswear company 'Reflo', who in the run up to the golf tournament had a marketing campeign called 'Giants'. The opening of their advert depicts two feet, very similar to that of the formation at Wilmington. The anonymous individual I had been in contact with assured me in no-uncertain terms that it is ''no coincidence that the Wilmington footprints appeared at the same time as the Reflo campaign''.
In my investigations, I like to take great notice of any of the scientific aspects to a formation, and use that in my desicion as to wether the formation is genuine or not. Taking into account the fact there were no reports of nodal bending or expulsion, no mention of any radiation readings having been taken from within the formation, and the not-so-coincidental timing of the formation's appearance as footprints during the Reflo marketing campaign and sponsorship of the British Open golf tournament, I am of the opinion that the 2025 footprints at the Long Man of Wilmington were of human origin. That said, they were rather clever. Almost as if the Long Man himself had gone for a wander during the night. One thing I am yet to work out though, was the 'splash' further north in the field and it's relation to the feet. If anyone has any information on this I would be very interested to know.
Historic formations at the Long Man:
In 1990, two circles with a thin rectangle beneath them were spotted in the same field as that of the 2025 formation, albeit further north. In 1995, a yin-yang spiral formation was located in the field to the immediate west of the 1990/2025 field. In 2014, two formations appeared. In the field to the North, a complex pentagram, with a 5-pointed star at the centre and to the East, a simpler circular design comprising of a central point, middle ring, and an outer ring with 4 points at 90-degree intervals. In 2021, a spaced-out formation appeared in the same field as the eastern 2014 field. This formation comprised of varying patterns and shapes, nothing immediately recognisable.
Details of the 2025 formation:
(Information taken from cropcircleconnector.com)
The big toes are approx. 2m / 6’ wide and are by no means circular. The other toes gradually diminish in size until you reach the little toes which are approx. 90cm / 3’ wide.
The ball of the foot would be in the region of approx. 5m to 7m in width with the heel being maybe 4m to 6m.
The lay was clockwise around the heel, down the outside of the instep to the ball, clockwise around the ball and then back up the inside of the instep to the heel.
There were no signs of nodal bending or expulsion cavities but that would be because the crop was at maturation and was devoid of moisture.
There were no crease marks visible on the crop most of which had been laid at ground level.
There were no visible signs of trampling or damage.
It is quite possible that no-one else had entered the formation prior to my arrival as there were no visible tracks through the crop from the pathway alongside the field.
The right foot was away from the tramlines with no visible signs of entry and so I did not enter it.
There was only one part of the formation that crossed a tramline and that was the left big toe. At that point, the lay of the crop left the general clockwise swirl and partly headed in the opposite direction.
On the opposite side of the tramline where a small portion of the big toe had been laid, some crop had been pulled into the flow from behind, and from within, standing crop.
In the feet themselves, the crop was only lightly laid and there were many standing stems.
